What are Boom Cards™? Boom Learning ™ is an interactive website that makes digital practice of academic skills engaging for students. Not only is it engaging online practice, but they are also self-checking which helps students by providing immediate feedback and is automatic grading for teachers. I consider this a #teacherwin. What else is wonderful about this website? The price! Did you know you can assign Boom decks for FREE? You don’t even need an account, but if you want to track your data it is worth every penny. The most expensive plan is only $35 for the year and can be used for multiple classes (up to 200 students). You can either purchase Boom Decks for your students to use from their huge library or if you are looking for something specific or are feeling creative you can make your own decks.
How did I get started using Boom? When we went to distance learning I was looking for an alternative to Literacy Centers. I knew this was an important part of the day I didn’t want to give up on now that we were digital. I came across Boom and now I use it for so many things. I even use decks for whole group learning sometimes! I had so many resources that I printed and laminated for Literacy Centers, so I simply added the same, effective word work activities to Boom and I created what I consider “magic”. The kids love them, they are growing as readers, and I didn’t have to give up on of the most important parts of my day. I consider this another #teacherwin.
What do I use Boom Cards for now? I tutor and do a few small group sessions with toddlers. We are also virtual, just to make sure we stay safe. I found that using Boom Decks™ in tutoring sessions is perfect too. I also send them to my niece to help her prep for kindergarten. Needless to say, I have found many uses for Boom Cards™ that have made a huge impact on my life.
