Positive Classroom Management with V.I.P Students

V.I.P Positive Classroom Management

A win-win positive classroom management plan!

Classroom Management System

Have you ever heard of having a VIP student as part of your positive classroom management plan?

I learned about having VIP students years ago and slowly implemented it into my positive classroom management plan. I have changed different things about it each year. One year, I chose a VIP student each day (my kids needed this constant change and chance to be my VIP). Another year I did one student a week. I have even done two students as the VIPs for the week. Just like any positive classroom management system I change it up to make it work for each class I have.

How do I pick my VIP?

I have used all different methods but I finally found a way that worked well for me. I just cut up small squares of paper. Anytime I want to reward a student for good behavior, helping others, or showing improvement I hand them a paper and they write their name on it and put it in my VIP jar. Anytime I am ready to pick a VIP I simply draw a name from the jar. Sometimes if the same person is chosen over and over I find another reward and choose another name (but this rarely happens). When I went to a two person VIP area it worked nicely choosing a name because each time I could pick two students giving more opportunity for the special VIP treatment.

What special things does the VIP get to do?

  • Special seating

  • Special supplies

  • A homework pass

  • Teacher helper for the day

Being my teacher helper means they get to run all the errands, hand out papers, and do any odd tasks that pop up. It is that simple!
